Dongguan, Guangzhou

November 21st, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

Just came back from Dongguan. Other than the weather, I love the place because of the Cantonese speaking people! :-)

Went there on Monday, on SQ, but not many choices on Movies On Demand, chose to watch Me, You & Dupree on the way there.

Took a cab that cost us RMB 400 from airport to the hotel. The meeting was at night, over dinner. Visited a supplier yesterday and was impressed by how well the "China" factories were doing. Heard that the employees grew from 2,000 people in Year 2003 to 10,200 people today. The processes are fast and accurate. Good work there, making me feel so inferior. :-(

Luckily, there were more choices on the way back. Watched The Lake House and Click on the way back last night, my kind of shows. :-)

I am tired today, due to all the stairs climbing. The weather is bad here. :-(

Graduation Ceremony

November 8th, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

Attended the SQI graduation ceremony last night in Furama Riverfront Hotel, surprised to find out that I passed with Merit. (This tells you that we didn’t know there is ranking in our results)

When the "guide" asked who is Merit, I was like "what has the cert to do with us being married or not?"

2nd prize was a S$40 BORDERS prepaid card. :-)

Then, again……..

November 7th, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

Dad complained that a guy friend of mine called the home phone and asked for my number in Sg, RUDELY. Well, whoever it is, please call and talk nicely to my parents. I have tons of friends, so, you replying that you are a friend is like…….

I missed SILAI very much, tried calling her yesterday on her mobile phone but she didn’t pick up. What the heck, scared the hell out of me. It has been quite some time since she talked to me online. So, I smsed her hubby in Pg and asked if everything is OK. In the meantime, I got her Sbg home phone number from Fiona and tried calling. Thank God, she answered the phone but sounded out of breath. Then, my blood boiled, she was mopping the floor when no one was at home! Me, being protective as usual, surely not happy. In fact, I was kind of angry. She said it is easier to mop the floor when no on is at home, so they won’t complain the floor is wet. Hello, who in the world mop the floor without water???

Fiona said pregnant woman should move more for easy labor. I understand but… still boiling… SILAI then smsed me asked me not to be too anxious, she’s fine and she thought of me too. She thought I avoided her coz I forgot to get her the grapes. I didn’t keep my words, AGAIN. She said I was supposed to be back during Raya, but I didn’t take the long weekend coz flew back to Sg only on Deepavali.

Actually, I am really proud of SILAI. She’s a real independent woman. Hubby not by her side all the time. Each time, I try to be protective, overly protective, coz she’s always the SILAI I know in high school, the gentle demure pretty girl I spent years with. I really wish to see her growing tummy and be there with her, for her during the pregnancy. :-)

I am waiting…

October 31st, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

Sorry, forgot to update the blog, that I am back in Sg. Not gonna fly anytime soon, perhaps a short holiday end of this month and to Dubai mid of next.

Recently, there are too many things happening, especially at work. Making one feel de-motivated, as low as you can be.

Ok, let’s talk about what excites me. Just browsed through Bookcraves’ website and suddenly thought of searching for Sophie Kinsella’s latest book. Well, came upon the website to be nearer to her… hehe… her official website at http://www.randomhouse.com/bantamdell/kinsella/

I am waiting for her new book… nowhere in sight… :-(

Chinese anyone?

October 18th, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

Another day has gone. Yesterday received news that I may have to stay in Wuxi till end of the month. But I do not feel the ummph to stay so long. I am running out of “battery”.

Another day of eating lunch off the plate using chopstick, another day torturing myself speaking understandable Chinese to the Chinese together with lots of sign language just to make sure they really understand what I am struggling to say. Why do I find it easier speaking Japanese-English than Chinese-English ah? I am quite tired asking the waitress or waiter whomever it was to read the menu out for the meals we have outside. But the food here is incredibly cheap.

One thing I am grateful for, is, who says Chinese don’t drink coffee? Of coz, the coffee they serve in the hotel is as thin as 0.5mm…. but then, I get to drink some instant ones in the office. Phew…. How do I live without coffee…..

It rained a while, and the weather is good now. Have been grateful (another thing I am grateful for) that I am not in Sg, in the midst of the haze, created by just some inconsiderate people and yet do not make much effort to stop torturing everybody.

Just saw some of Fiona’s wedding pics in the album created by Wendy. Good effort there.

Great Flight Experience

October 17th, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

We went to watch World Trade Centre on Sunday. Well, what can I say, to watch the 18th and 19th survivors’ story re-lived. My heart goes all out to the families of all that have gone to the better world, and also to the families of the survivors. It is not easy to live through those moments, moments of loss and grievances.

I took China Eastern for the first time to Wuxi yesterday. Surprisingly, perhaps I was too well prepared for the worst, that I found it a comfortable experience. It has been a few times since I sat alone in the plane, and it felt so comfortable to lean over the other seat to read. Well, last night, I told him about my flight experience. “Not too bad, except for the far-too-few-toilet-far-too-many-people experience, except for the far-too-few-toilet-that-one-broke-down, except that the toilet that broke down was the one nearest to my seat, except for the smile-sweetly-at-you-but-withdraw-their-smile-as-soon-as-you-turned-away stewardess and the VIP-walking-out-of-the-plane-on-the-manual-stairs-that-they-sent-to-the-plane-doorstep kind of act, with strong wind blowing on your face, messing your already messed up hair and hopped onto the transit bus to bring you to the airport”. Huh, what an experience ya, to think that I thought M’sia airline was bad when they started off their safety pre-caution “manual video” (literally human demonstration) when I flew back to Sg from KL.

Well, I was prepared for the non-tv experience though. That was why I brought along Cathy Kelly’s book (Never Too Late). Read more than half of it on the plane, just hope that I do not have enough time to finish it here before going back to Sg on China Eastern again, just in case you wonder, coz then I’ll have nothing to do on the plane!

The weather is good here (highest 29, lowest 17). It’s like Genting now. Why I say NOW, because I personally think Genting is getting warmer and warmer. Too bad, one can wear short pants there even at night. Of course, not on rainy nights. :-p Well, here, I enjoy the cool weather tomorrow forecast highest 25 lowest 17 which will be cooler.. hehehe.. , night time feel so comfortable walking outside. I eat regularly when I travel, which is good for my gastric, bad on my weighing scale. Hehe….

Discover the STOCK Genius In You…

August 10th, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

I received this invitation from NUS to join in a Stock Challenge organised by POEMS. Haha.. to discover the stock genius in students..

The concept is exactly the same like trading stocks in real market. The only difference is, you do not have to pay a single cent to trade. On the contrary, you are given SGD 80,000 (SGD 100,000 if you register early) virtual cash to trade. Sound fun?

Check this website for the "fun" http://shares.poems.com.sg/

Because I registered earlier, I am given a trial period from 7th Aug to 18th Aug. Anything I gain or lost in this period will not be counted. The real challenge begins on 28th Aug till 6th Oct. There are of course, some rules and regulations, and your net profit will be calculated when the game ends. What’s more, the champion of the Individual category will be given SGD 1,000.

Me, being the IDIOT in stocks found new fun. Haha.. I understand how people feel when the stock they bought goes down the drain and I think I am addicted to this game. :-(

Anyone who have good tips in SGX, please "enlighten" me. (But please do not tips me something long term coz I am trading for only a few weeks period) I’ll treat you something good if I win the money. Hmmm… too early to dream. Dream on… :-p

Dear Diary…

August 9th, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

It’s Sg National Day today, but I just couldn’t sleep in late. Probably too excited to meet my 2 friends for lunch afterwards. One of whom I have not met for 3 years but kept close in contact with.

Last night I went to NUS for the briefing on the courses I am going to take. Can’t help thinking of the time I spent in USM for 3 years. 3 wonderful years in Penang, knowing all wonderful friends. Dhana, Grace, Angie, Jeannie, I missed you gals very muchie.

This time round of studies will be slightly different because I am taking it part-time. The papers look interesting and prof assured that methodologies papers can be used in any industry. I am allowed to take 2 cross faculty modules, which means I can choose some other non-statistics papers. Have to do some research on this first. Anyway, we have to take the 2 compulsory papers in the first sem. So, no big deal for now.

On the way home last night, Jeannie called. Oh my, she has some kind of telepathy with me? That I missed USM so much and I missed her too? She asked when I am going back to KL again so we can catch up. Oh yes, I have not met her for 2 years now. I thought she wanted to drop me a “bomb”. Recently have been the “hot” time for dropping “bomb” ya. I hope you are lucky next month, Jeannie.

Upon reaching home did I realize while I rushed to school, I forgot to bring the laptop adaptor home. :-( I forgot that today is a public holiday. Praying hard customers do not write too many emails today else, I’ll have problem conserving the battery. :-p

Well, I think I begin to have some “life”. Used to stay in office for the rest of the days, weekends and of course public holidays that ex-colleagues said my life was in office. Now that I take up different challenge in career do I realize that there are so many things to do besides work.

Now I can knock off early, never stayed later than 8pm. Opportunities to travel and meet interesting people from all places. Now, pursuing my dream to study again. At least for another 2.5 years, I will have “life”. :-p

Last but not least, I have just applied for 2 days leave for next weekend. I have already informed my pregnant friend to call upon a few friends for a mini gathering at KLCC on 19th Aug. Just a short one, I have to spend some time with family. Mom, sis and bro have been calling quite often to ask when I am going home. Yes, I really need to go home, still have souvenirs and food from Shanghai and Japan for them. And birthday gift to Cherry too..

It’s home sweet home time I guess….

The Fast & The Furious : Tokyo Drift

August 6th, 2006 by colleen-sukhihotu

We went to watch The Fast & The Furious : Tokyo Drift. Well, Black (Sean) surely doesn’t look like an 18 year old. He looked like an OVER aged student in uniform.

Kang (Han) was cool but died the contrary…. *sob*sob*

Anyway, as usual, there were lots of beautiful cars. And when there are beautiful cars, there are beautiful girls… with ULTRA MINI skirt and SUPER exposing tops…. *phewit*

The drifting scenes were good, so good that you feel the “drift” as if you were in the car… *cool*
