Under My Spell

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Under My Spell by Deborah Wright was my first fairy world novel I have ever read. I do not believe in fairy tales, in which the prince and princess will live happily ever after. I would prefer to read more realistic, life stories.

So, one must wonder, why read this book if I am not into it? Well, I was looking for something to de-stress when I found the book. The synopsis looked entertaining.

Here goes…..

Cara is twenty-five years old and beautiful, intelligent and kind. She’s also a witch. Unsure of her feelings towards magic and desperate to escape the clutches of her overbearing mother, she takes a ‘proper’ job as a nanny for the Wilkins family. But things don’t go quite as she has planned.

Cara moves in to the Wilkin’s home and before long the whole family comes to rely on her as a source of fun and excitement in their lives. But Nick and Andie Wilkin’s marriage is falling apart so Cara sets about trying to reconcile them. When her benign attempts to fix things result in Nick flirting with her and Andie contemplating an affair, Cara can’t resist any longer. She resorts to the magic she’s been trying so hard to give up and soon the whole house is in uproar…

Well, I just do not know how to appreciate the beauty of fairy world. I had light laugh, and the stories goes a quite predictable plot.

Book Craves

Friday, June 17th, 2005

I went to Westmall the other day to rent the latest book of Sophie Kinsella, The Undomestic Goddess. Nothing to do with shopaholic, but from the synopsis, I guessed it is as hilarious as shopaholic series. :-) But, the rental is a bit too expensive, I was kind of disappointed.

Well, well, the world is fair; when I was in great disappointment did I come across this website with great excitement. Wow, you won’t believe what I’ve got here. An online solution to my book craves. :-p

Now, I can surf online for books I would love to read and arrange for delivery (min 2 books, max 3 books per person), at cheaper rental than those in shopping malls. :-) And, the best part is, no delivery charges applied, only if you missed the delivery, and re-arrange delivery, S$5 is charged. I can even get my books delivered to office. :-)

Unfortunately, The Undomestic Goddess is rented out. I have to wait. Slight flaw here, they do not provide reservation service. But, there is a Recent Return page, in which you can check everyday, if your book has been returned. :-)

Well, I can’t wait to get hold of the book, or shall I just pay the rental at Westmall?

Sarong Party Girl (SPG)

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

I came to "know" about this girl from Saturday’s paper. Sarong Party Girl, she’s now in the tabloid, hot news. Guess why?

She posted some nude pictures of herself in her blogs. Well, no big deal huh?

Read her blogs, and come to wonder if I can understand a single thing of what she is talking about. Sex, sex, sex and sex? I got confused….

Nevertheless, we are still very conservative. Some commented that it’s a shame to her parents and blamed her upbringing. Well, you read what she writes, and judge by yourself.

What do I think? One of the picture, was taken beautifully, that’s arts. :-) Other than that, I can’t comment much. If she thinks it is ok to publish her blogs, then, so be it.

Interested to read what she writes? Try this… http://sarongpartygirl.blogspot.com/

(Note :- Btw, just checked on it this morning, the pictures just won’t appear, what is "bandwith exceeded" anyway?

Baby Love…

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

Finished reading Baby Love, by Martine Oborne past 2 weeks ago, but couldn’t find the way to share its wonder. Well, do not assume I’ve found the way to share it now, just wanna write in simple way, what this book is about.

Caroline in her 30s has a good job, a loving husband and a beautiful home. But the one thing that would make her life complete is a baby. Aborted one in the early years of marriage, she and her husband, Richard have tried every potion, position and old wives’ tale under the sun but with no success.

It was really interesting the way they wanna make love in the airport Mothers’ Breastfeeding Room (without locking the door, and you guess what happened), Caroline takes time off from her work, so that she can be stress-free and concentrate on conceiving? :-p

Unfortunately, she thinks the husband does not want a baby as much as her. Richard is a successful yet very ambitious man. He aimed to climb the corporate ladder, putting lots of effort in his job, including covering for his dear colleague, of course, at the expense of his wife’s well being.

Sound disastrous….. When Caroline met this guy, Alex, chemistry sparks. Caroline feels deeply for Alex, and so does Alex. Secretly, they fall in love, but nothing happened, until Richard further neglected Caroline.

I’ll spare you the details, but I learned something from the book. Be there for your loved one, especially when they need you most. Do not take your loved ones for granted. There are people who realised what they are going to lost, only when love is at stake. There may be time, when it’s too late.

Ok… ok… ending of the story, Caroline got pregnant (with Richard’s child) and Alex marries someone else. :-)

LY told me about this girl who writes good blogs, Wendy. Her blog even won the Best Asian Blog 2004. Well, I had a look at her blogs, and first comment was “she is so Ah Lian” (Sg term for ‘bohsia’).

Few days later, I have nothing much to do, I read her blogs once again. This time, I even marked her page. She is simply amazing. With her good vocab, but bad grammars, she is really GOOD, at writing blogs.

She put pictures in almost everything she describes, and she is good at expressing her own self, which I salute. She is very straightforward that she sound sarcastic, may offend someone or anyone.

Is she pretty? Oh yes, she is pretty, one glance, she looks like Coco Lee, minus the height.

She is right; you will definitely feel for her when you read her blogs. You will either hate her or like her.

For me, I love the way she writes, and hate her guts. :-)

Have a good time!
