Memoirs Of A Geisha - Arthur Golden
Sunday, December 11th, 2005Sayuri’s story goes all the way back to when she was little, to how she started her apprenticeship in Gion, hardships she experienced in her life, to how she worked to achieve her dream of life, to be Iwamura ElectricChairman’s mistress.
Movie version of Memoirs of a Geisha will soon be here. Zhang Ziyi will play the role of Sayuri.
If I were to choose, I would rather read than watch the story. But then, I am curious how well they can do this, translating a book into a movie.
Sayuri’s stunning blue eyes, geishas’ thick make-up right up to their neck, putting on lisptick to "mold" a smaller mouth, beautiful kimonos and of course, their gentleness when they pour sake to customer, playing shamisen and dance all night.
For those who are lazy to read, but interested to have a "peep" into "old-time" geisha’s life, catch the Memoirs of a Geisha on big screen. I’ll definitely do so.
(If you are wondering if Sayuri is still alive, nope, she is not. She allowed her story to be published only after her death.)
